Trade Associations - Gov Tourism Chamber Proposal Causes Negative Reactions by Nikos Krinis 1 April 2009 written by Nikos Krinis 1 April 2009 0 comments Share 0FacebookTwitterLinkedinWhatsappEmail 5 In a letter addressed to Prime Minister Kostas Karamanlis, the President of the Union of Hellenic Chambers of Commerce, Georgios Kassimatis, expressed his full opposition to the legislation that foresees the conversion of the hotel chamber into a tourism chamber. According to Mr. Kassimatis, the conversion announced recently by Tourism Minister Kostas Markopoulos is neither desirable nor useful especially now when the government opts for drastic reduction in state spending and seeks ways to shrink bureaucracy. “There is not any other EU country that operates a tourism chamber,” he said. Of similar nature is the letter of the Chambers Group for the Development of Greek Isles (EOAEN) sent to the tourism minister. EOAEN requested the withdrawal of the legislation and said that the ministry should show support to the tourism departments that already operate within the chambers.
