The announcement came after a briefing took place by the Association of Greek Tourism Enterprises to IMF representatives during their annual evaluation of the Greek economy. The association’s briefing gave the IMF insight on the current state and the prospects of the Greek tourist economy and made reference to the contribution of tourism to the GDP, employment and the balance of payments, as well as to regional development. The association highlighted the effectiveness of the tourism support measures and mentioned the possible need to take additional measures The IMF representatives were also briefed on the association’s upcoming studies on the reflection of the importance of Greek tourism for the economy and its strategic development directives towards 2020.
