Starting today, students interested in pursuing post-graduate studies in tourism for the 2019-2020 period can apply by 1 November 2019 at the local tourism ministry departments in 11 Greek cities.

A total of 810 graduates will be accepted for the 2019-2020 period after the approval this week of Deputy Tourism Minister Manos Konsolas.

The ministry is implementing for a second year, post-graduate educational and training programs aimed at employees and short-term unemployed in reception service, food and beverages, culinary art, confectionery and home care.

A total of 33 post-graduate educational and training programs will be offered in Athens, Thessaloniki, Trikala, Rhodes, Corfu, Agios Nikolaos, Heraklion, Nafplio, Loutraki, Pyrgos, and Kalamata.

The post graduate programs – with 20 percent of the positions to be filled by temporary unemployed – are aimed at upgrading services offered and the overall tourism product.

“The post-graduate and training programs in tourism are aimed at upgrading the services provided and enhancing employees’ skills. This is only the beginning. We are planning a complete overhaul of tourism education and training programs with new areas of specialization,” Konsolas said.

According to labor ministry data released earlier this year, the number of young people choosing studies in tourism is increasing due to a strong professional outlook.
