DESCRIPTION:The Authentic Marathon Swim race comes 2\,500 years later\, at the place where it started\, in Artemision. The authentic marathon swimming route performed by Skyllias together with his daughter Hydna revives by uniting the legend with history. \nThe great historic sporting event includes 10km\, 3km\, 1\,5km and an 800m swimming race for kids to be held on September 4-6\, 2020\, at Pefki\, Evia in the Municipality of Istiaia-Edipsos. \nThe event prioritizing the absolute safety of its athletes\, will provide everyone with a high-quality safety lifeguard buoy\, giving them an extra motive to choose The Authentic Swimming Marathon. The swimming route will be held at the straits of Artemision where the average water temperature is between 23-26 degrees Celsius. Specialized lifeguards and lifeboats will contribute to the safety of the race. Different categories will be formed for swimmers depending on the total number of participants\, while a separate category will be formed for those wearing wetsuits in the 3km and 1.5 categories. The event offers race timing for all swimmers. The Authentic Marathon Swim will be held with the approval of the Hellenic Swimming Federation\, according to FINA regulations. \nThe noteworthy event will be honored by the presence of the silver Olympic medalist\, world champion in open water swimming and member of the International Marathon Swimming Hall of Fame\, Spyros Gianniotis. Prominent personalities of international swimming will take part at The Authentic Marathon Swim. According to Herodotus\, the story of Skyllias and Hydna explains that in 480 B.C. they were arrested by Persians and boarded onto their ships\, as the Persians wanted to use the pair of proficient divers for an extensive exploration of underwater treasures from shipwrecks of that time and age. Subsequently\, the historical swimmers realized that Persians planned on using them in an upcoming naval combat in Artemision\, meaning that Skyllias and Hydna would have to face their Greek compatriots. The Ancient-Greek heroes jumped into the sea\, sliced the ropes from the anchors of Persian ships and started swimming towards Artemision in order to inform the Greek Naval Forces. The historical achievements of Skyllias and Hydna have been recorded from Herodotus\, “The Father of History”\, who has praised them for their unique swimming ability and the importance of the information they offered to the Greeks\, allowing the Naval Forces to prepare for their upcoming Battle of Salamis and their eventual triumph. The Authentic’ will be held on November 10\, 2019 by the Hellenic Athletics Federation (SEGAS) with the support & sponsorship of the state as well as the private sector. \nThe Athens Marathon\, an event with 122 years of history\, has managed to increase participation from 4\,000 runners in 2005 to more than 43\,000 in 2016. DESCRIPTION:As the registration is open\, the top and highly successful sports tourism event in Greece\, Santorini Experience\, takes place for the 5th consecutive year on the beautiful Cyclades island on October 4-6\, 2019. \nRegister now here.\nFor running fans\, 3 different routes will take place on Saturday October 5\, with the unique images of the volcano as their setting\, overlooking the Caldera and passing through the settlements of Imerovigli\, Firostefani and Oia. In particular\, the 5 km route\, named “Aristides Alafouzos” as of last year\, deals with running and dynamic walking\, the 10 km route is designed for the experienced runners and the 15 km route for those who love power\, stamina\, technique and adrenaline. All routes start from the desalination plant in Oia\, including parts of trail track\, and finish in Oia. The running routes are designed by the former marathon runner\, Greek classic route record holder\, running trainer and director of All About Running\, Nikos Polias. \nOpen water swimming by Vikos\, as always\, takes place at the last day of the event\, Sunday October 6\, and includes the 1\,5 mile (2\,4 km) race. Participants will have the opportunity to swim from the volcano to the old port of Fira. Organization will provide amateur athletes with a high-quality safety lifeguard buoy\, giving them extra motive to choose Santorini Experience. \nSwimming route will take place with the upmost safety in the enchanting sea of Santorini (average water temperature of 20-22 degrees Celsius)\, under the technical direction of federal coach with Olympic and World Championship distinctions\, Nikos Gemelos\, who has designed this unique route. Once again\, specialized lifeguards of Lifeguard Patrol will contribute in safety measures\, providing staff as well as lifeboats. DESCRIPTION:The top golf tournament for the shipping community “Greek Maritime Golf Event“\, following its four successful years and its great appeal in the field of Greek and global shipping industry\, returns for the 5th consecutive year at Costa Navarino during 8-9 June 2019. \nGolf enthusiasts activated in the Greek shipping industry will have the chance to compete in the two signature 18-hole courses\, The Dunes Course and The Bay Course\, in a landscape full of centuries-old olive trees with stunning views of the Ionian Sea and the historic Bay of Navarino. \nParticipants will form teams of four golfers and compete at both team and individual levels in a shotgun scramble that will take place on Saturday\, June 8th. Teams participating will claim the prizes for the top three positions in the overall standings; while special awards will be given to individual players who will achieve the best scores in the special categories “Longest Drive“and”Closest to the Pin“. \nThe 5th Greek Maritime Golf Event will reinforce the union “Mazi gia to Paidi” (“Together for Children”) in two ways: \na) During the shotgun scramble\, to be held on Saturday\, June 8th\, morning\, players participating in the tournament can offer the amount they wish to support the good cause of the event. Specifically\, golfers will be able to buy up to 3 extra efforts at the 10 hole of The Dunes Course. \nb) During this year’s award ceremony participants will have the opportunity to contribute directly the amount they wish at the specially designed area. \nThe amount to be collected in total will be given to the union of non-profit NGOs “Mazi gia to Paidi” that works since 1996 and supports more than 30.000 children\, on an annual basis\, including more than 10.000 direct beneficiaries.
