The island of Limnos will make an effort to improve ferry connections in order to attract more visitors from Northern Greece, the island’s mayor, Antonis Hatzidiamantis, said at a press conference during the 28th International Tourism Exhibition Philoxenia (22-25 November).

Extending Chalkidiki’s tourism season to 150 days from 120 days is the Chalkidiki Tourism Organization’s goal for 2013, the organization’s president, Grigoris Tasios, said during a press conference during the 28th International Tourism Exhibition Philoxenia in Thessaloniki (22-25 November).

The Greek regions of East Macedonia and Thrace, North Aegean, Western Macedonia, Thessaly, Ionian Islands, Central Macedonia, South Aegean and the Peloponnese were honored during the opening ceremony of the 28th Philoxenia.

The Hellenic Association of Travel and Tourist Agencies (HATTA) honored the best travel agency brochures and websites during the 28th International Tourism Exhibition Philoxenia held 22-25 November.

The artefacts that had been stolen last year from the Olympia Museum of Ancient Olympic Games were recovered on November 24. The valuable antiquities are now safely kept in the Ancient Olympic Games Museum of Olympia and will be put back on display next week, along with the digital exhibition on the history of the most renowned games of Greek Antiquity.

Parallel events on the occasion of the 28th International Tourism Exhibition Philoxenia.

“During these difficult times Greece and the Greek people are going through, tourism can contribute significantly to overturn the climate and restore growth. Tourism could be the greatest comparative advantage for Greece,” Tourism Minister Olga Kefalogianni said during the opening ceremony of the 28th Philoxenia International Tourism Exhibition on 22 November at the Thessaloniki International Exhibition Center.

Thessaloniki will give its citizens and visitors alike their first chance to explore and engage directly with architecture of the city this weekend. 56 buildings will open, ranging from monuments to residential buildings and public edifices and spanning centuries of history, from the 16th down to the 21st.
