Argostoli to Receive Makeover

Tourism Minister Aris Spiliotopoulos recently announced the immediate transformation of the Xenia hotel in Argostoli (Kefallonia) into a boutique hotel and a modern conference center, which will run all-year round.

Mr. Spiliotopoulos announced the Xenia renovation plans during a meeting with the mayor of Argostoli, Giorgos Tsilimidos, which took place within the framework of his tour of Kefallonia Island.

The tourism minister also visited the premises of the Argostoli marina and did not hide his disappointment or surprise: “Only two words can describe the current state of the marina: shame and disgrace!

“Shame on the criminal indifference of those who, for eight years, wasted the Greek taxpayers money, which was intended for the renovation of the Argostoli marina.”

The tourism minister underlined the immediate refurbishment of the Argostoli marina once a private investor is selected to complete and manage the marina’s facilities. The Argostoli marina is one of the three marinas that had an open tender -completed at the end of August- for development and management. The other two marinas are within ports on Lesvos and Zakynthos.

Also, the deadline of bids for the open tender of the marina at the port of Malia on Crete is 3 September.

Separately, on a visit to Andros island, Mr. Spiliotopoulos referred to the ‘criminal indifference’ on the part of the government, in regards to the current state of the Xenia hotel.

The tourism minister said that he is determined to create all necessary conditions so that the Xenia -which once had offered significantly to the development of Andros- will function once again, this time as a modern boutique hotel.
