Tourism Minister Aris Spiliotopoulos recently signed a joint ministerial decision that sets the necessary specifications of theme parks for their inclusion within the development law. The current development law is the first that foresees the financial backing of theme parks.

According to the joint ministerial decision, theme parks are portrayed as special tourist infrastructure facilities that offer entertainment or educational services to visitors. The definition is broad enough to encompass many different types of services thereby giving an opportunity to develop a wide range of businesses.

Theme parks are a widespread form of entertainment and throughout the world there are more than 150 theme and entertainment parks.
