The Role of Ports to be Discussed

An international conference, which will focus on the role of ports as connecting hubs between maritime and inland transport, is to take place on 17 and 18 September, Minister of Mercantile Marine, the Aegean and Island Policy Yiorgos Voulgarakis recently announced.

The main topics of the conference will include a discussion that will concern the best practices in ports for the connection of maritime and inland transport; the important role of the organization and operation of ports for the management of the supply chain; and the challenge to develop seaports according to globalization conditions. The conference is a joint initiative of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe and the marine ministry.

Participants will include political representatives, businessmen, academics and business executives in the area of transport from the 56 member-countries of the commission.
