Theme Park Planned for Lavrion

The plan to construct a theme park in Lavrion, which will resemble the City of Arts and Sciences in Valencia and the city Lijiang (Yunnan province in northern China), was recently approved by the town’s municipal council.

The idea, promoted by the Kaperoni Business Financial Group, involves the creation of a culture park that will contain Chinese architectural elements in combination with Greek civilization. The park is to be named Philoxenia Land.

The Municipality of Lavrion has set up a committee to cooperate with investors for the promotion of the project and also supervise a pending dispute that involves the property rights of the site. As of 2004 the Municipality of Lavrion is in a court battle that concerns the rights of the land with real-estate company Pasal Development.

However, if the plan goes into effect, Philoxenia Land will include commercial buildings, a multi-cultural center, a museum, a 5-star hotel, a conference and exhibition center, a closed gym and tennis courts. The distinguished Hotel Operators chain will operate the hotel within the park.

The project aims for the emergence of a new local site with recreational activities that will attract large numbers of visitors from Athens and other cities of Greece during all seasons of the year.

The Kaperoni Business Financial Group also aims for the arrivals of Chinese tourists through agreements with Chinese tour operators.

Philoxenia Land is estimated to cost some 112 million euros.
