Rent-a-cars Want to Go Green

The Greek Car Rental Companies Association recently suggested the creation of a ‘green fleet’ of rental cars to circulate in Greece so as to combat air pollution released from aged automobiles.

The association made the proposal after Minister of Economy and Finance Yiorgos Alogoskoufis announced that road tax for motor vehicles will soon be based on the amount of emissions each car produces.

The association believes that the rental car industry should be provided with incentives aimed towards the use of environmentally friendly cars and the creation of a ‘green fleet.’

Environmentally friendly cars are those that use different technologies and manage to reduce emissions below the limit of 120 g/km, which is the European Union’s ambition for 2012.

The fleet of rental cars in Greece totals some 160,000 automobiles.
