MICE Tourism Initiatives for Islands and Small Areas by Nikos Krinis 1 October 2008 written by Nikos Krinis 1 October 2008 0 comments Share 0FacebookTwitterLinkedinWhatsappEmail 4 The development of the natural environment of Greek islands and small areas through the growth of ecotourism and other alternative forms of tourism is the main theme of the ‘Alternative tourism and environment management in small and/or island areas’ conference to be held on Milos, 2-4 October. The conference will examine issues related to the development of ecotourism through the use of natural resources of a region but under conditions that will not affect the ecological balance. The speeches of the conference will be focused on non-urban, small islands and remote areas and will highlight development opportunities and alternative forms of tourism. The conference will refer to the natural landscape as a resource for the development of ecotourism; ecotourism on the islands; the management of visitors in ecotourism; and conference tourism outside major urban centers. Participants of the conference will include representatives of academic institutions, research centers, non-governmental organizations and enterprises related to tourism, the environment and renewable energy source centers. The conference is organized under the Natura 2000 EU program, which is part of the South Aegean Regional Operational Program 2000-2006, and aims to highlight and promote the Natura 2000 areas as alternative forms of tourism. The conference is co-organized by the Cyclades Development Company and the Hellenic Hotel Chamber of Greece.
