The 19th European Cities Monitor annual survey, carried out by international real estate firm Cushman & Wakefield, compares Europe’s major business cities and indicates their performance in key categories ranging from the best cities in which to locate a business to the availability of qualified staff. According to the survey, London and Paris were announced as the best European cities for the setting up of an enterprise followed by Frankfurt, Brussels and Barcelona. Athens placed last in 34th place. Athens’ position in each field is as follows: 28th in access to the markets, customers or clients; 29th in telecommunications; 31st in international transportation network; 31st in the business climate created by the government through tax policies or financial incentives; 34th in spoken languages; 19th in the relation between quality and price of office space; 30th in the availability of qualified staff; 28th in freedom from pollution; 26th in personnel’s quality of life; and 33rd in transportation networks.
