Attica group recently applied to the Ministry of Mercantile Marine, the Aegean and Island Policy in order for the Superfast XII to serve the Piraeus-Heraklio route. Minoan Lines and ANEK currently operate the Piraeus-Heraklio route and serve some 1.4 million passengers (2007), 140,000 trucks and 220,000 cars annually.

Minoan Lines, based on its own figures, claims to hold 72 percent share of passengers, 62.2 percent of private vehicles and 49.6 percent of trucks. ANEK maintains the remaining shares.

According to shipping professionals, the presence of the Superfast XII will further enhance the level of services offered on the Piraeus-Heraklio line.
