Surveys, Trends & Stats Hotel Federation Straightens Out Data Mix Up by Nikos Krinis 1 May 2009 written by Nikos Krinis 1 May 2009 0 comments Share 0FacebookTwitterLinkedinWhatsappEmail 4 The Hellenic Federation of Hotels recently “corrected” false data over price increases of Greek hotels in 2008 distributed by Hotels.com website. The Hotels.com Hotel Price Index (HPI) survey of hotel prices in major city destinations across the world reported a 15 percent increase in average room prices of Greek hotels for the fourth quarter of 2008 against the same period in 2007. “This 15 percent rise is a result of Hotels.com valuing the average room rates of Greek hotels in British pounds,” the federation said. (Specifically, for Greece the survey presented the average price per room per night at 77 pounds sterling for the fourth quarter of 2007, while for the same period in 2008 the price is shown to reach 88 pounds sterling that reports a year-on-year change of 15 percent.) In order to restore the truth, the federation noted that the cost for British tourists was higher for the fourth quarter of 2008 against 2007 due to the drop in the exchange rate of the pound sterling against the euro and not because hotels raised their prices.
