Ship Owners Demand Anti-Crisis Measures

The Association of Passenger Ship Owners recently requested the immediate suspension of user charges at ports (port taxes) and the elimination of third party taxes.

In a recent release, the association’s president, Markos Foros, applauded the recent measure that concerns the suspension of airlines’ slot fees at Greece’s regional airports. However, he indicated that the government seems “indifferent” to the constant claims of Greek coastal shipping companies for “the removal of third party taxes imposed unjustifiably and illegally on ferry tickets.

“In order to reduce the impact of the crisis we must develop domestic tourism that almost entirely depends on sea transport,” he said.

“We should therefore facilitate the passengers of sea transportation.”
