Attica Group recently signed shipbuilding contracts with world-class shipyard Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering Company, Korea, for the construction of two monohull-type, fast car-passenger ferries. The total investment cost will amount to some 137 million euros.

Petros Vettas, chief executive officer of Attica, expressed his satisfaction in regards to the signing of the shipbuilding contracts with Daewoo as the Korean company had also built the vessels Blue Star Paros, Blue Star Naxos and Blue Star Ithaki.

“Our group’s scope to provide first class sea transportation services in domestic and international waters with modern, new and fast ships will be further enhanced with the addition of these two units, ” Mr. Vettas said.

In reference to the new investment, Andreas Vgenopoulos, president of Marfin Investment Group, noted that the agreement is part of the overall philosophy of the MIG group that sees its activities to be of top standards through the provision of products and services worthy to be consumed by Greeks.

“The new aircraft, the new ships and the new factories of the group show that we are on the right track,” Mr. Vgenopoulos said.

The delivery of the first vessel will take place in spring 2011 and the second vessel will be delivered in the first quarter of 2012. Both ships are designed to operate in Greek domestic waters.

The two new car-passenger ferries will have overall length of 145.5 meters and speed of 25.5 knots and the capacity to carry 2,400 passengers and 450 private vehicles or 50 freight units and 150 private vehicles.
