In regards to air transport, the negative responses on aviation capacity for domestic and international flights reached 84 percent and 90 percent respectively, while service quality at the Macedonia Airport was characterized as “unsatisfactory” by 73 percent of the replies. The Thessaloniki Port also received negative responses as 58 percent of the respondents considered Thessaloniki’s coastal connection to be insufficient and 49 percent criticized the absence of local sea transport. Thessaloniki’s rail service was also mentioned as a major problem by 80 percent of respondents who refered to the lack of the suburban network while 47 percent complained about service reliability and 38 percent mentioned problems in the connections to domestic and international destinations. As for Thessaloniki’s tourism image, 46 percent of the respondents called for improvement on transport infrastructure, 41 percent mentioned that tourist areas must be redeveloped and 39 percent said that an improved tourism campaign is needed. The survey was presented at a conference of the Professional Chamber of Thessaloniki in regards to the development of Thessaloniki and 582 companies/members were interviewed.
