Kalymnos’ tourism professionals presented the island’s breakfast menu, during a special event in Athens. During an event in Athens on Monday, the association presented the new online platform, www.kalymnos.remenu.net, which includes information on the island’s local products and recently certified breakfast menu. According to the association’s president, Nikolaos Tsagkaris, the aim is for the island’s local producers to offer their products through the platform to the rest of the world. Among the products presented are Kalymnos’ pastries — including the “Eptazymo” local bread offered after church services — smoked seafood and fish, olive oil, citrus products, herbal essences, thyme honey, spoon sweets and many others. The breakfast of Kalymnos recently became the 41st certified menu of the “Greek Breakfast” initiative, which was launched in 2010 by the Hellenic Chamber of Hotels (HCH). The announcement was made during the recent Horeca 2018 exhibition. Kalymnos’ breakfast menu was presented during the Horeca 2018 exhibition. The hoteliers association also plans to further upgrade the Alternet Greece Network (www.alternetgreece.com), an online platform which currently includes information on the island’s tourism enterprises (hotels, car rentals, cafés and bars, shops, medical services). An online hotel booking platform will soon be added with additional search options for alternative forms of tourism. “Kalymnos has managed to become the ultimate alternative tourism destination,” Kalymnos hotelier Maria Sarafoglou told GTP Headlines. A famous rock-climbing destination, Kalymnos each year attracts thousands of climbers from all over the world. “Climbers usually start visiting the island in early March. They abstain during July and August due to the high temperatures, but Kalymnos continues to receive climbers until November,” Sarafoglou said. “Kalymnos is also an exceptional religious destination as many visit the Monastery of Saint Savvas where his holy relic is kept, as well as many other monasteries… Our next goal is to further develop sea tourism,” she added.
