Qatar Airways Travelers Love Destination Greece, Says Country Manager

“Greece has been and continues to be one of the most popular and important destinations in our network, travelers seem to love it,” Theresa Cissell, Qatar Airways Country Manager for Greece & Cyprus, said during this year’s Posidonia shipping exhibition that recently took place in Athens.

Qatar Airways recently added a new direct non-stop service from Doha to Mykonos, the third Greek destination in the airline’s expanding global network. The Doha-Mykonos route followed the airline’s launch of direct flights to Thessaloniki in late March.

According to Cissell, the airline expects the new services to continue to help reinforce the links between the State of Qatar and Greece, as well as deepen the friendship and cooperation between the two countries.

“We are delighted that we are expanding our service offering in the country, as well as supporting Greece’s tourism industry by providing our passengers the opportunity to visit Greece through more,” Cissell told GTP Headlines.

Regarding passenger traffic on the two new routes, load factors are in line with Qatar Airways’ growth plans and the airline sees positive bookings numbers.

“Our forecasts show that as anticipated, there is a strong demand for passengers, not only from Middle East, but also from our expanding routes across the world travelling to Greece,” Cissell said.

The Middle East is only one of many markets Qatar Airways is connecting Europe and Greece with. Through the new routes, the airline can connect more than 150 destinations through its Doha hub with Greece.

Qatar Airways is certainly not new to the Greek market as the airline has already been operating to Athens since June 2005. In 2015 Qatar Airways increased its service to the Greek capital from twice daily to three times daily to meet growing demand.

Qatar Airways was the official airline partner of the Posidonia 2018 international shipping exhibition and gave industry professionals the chance to experience the signature Qatari hospitality and also enjoy its award-winning Business Class comfort.

Throughout the days of the exhibition, the airline’s cabin crew hosted a demo of its new “First in Business” Qsuite Business Class Seat that features the industry’s first-ever double bed available in Business Class, has privacy panels that stow away and allows passengers in adjoining seats to create their own private room

During a special cocktail party, shipping and tourism professionals had the chance to taste the Business Class menu which is served aboard QR aircraft.

Qatar Airways currently operates a modern fleet of more than 200 aircraft via its hub, Hamad International Airport (HIA) to more than 150 destinations worldwide.

The carrier currently holds the title of ‘Airline of The Year’ as awarded by the prestigious 2017 Skytrax World Airline Awards.
