Plans for Athens Metro Line 4 Back on Track

Plans for the construction of Line 4 of the Athens metro are back on track as appeals against the tender were brushed off by the Council of State, it was announced on Wednesday.

According to reports, the bids of the two shortlisted consortia – Aktor – Ansaldo STP SpA – Hitachi Rail Italy SpA and J+P Avax SA – Ghella SpA – Alastom Transport SA – will be examined and then the contractor will be selected.

The total length of the U-shaped Line 4 is 38.2 km with 35 stations and it incorporates five individual sections, namely sections A, B, C, D and E.

Construction for Line 4 will kick off with Section A, which connects Veikou Park in Galatsi (Alsos Veikou) with Goudi (12.8km long, with 15 stations).

Once all sections are completed, Line 4 will connect Veikou Park in Galatsi, northeast of Athens with Goudi, Evangelismos Hospital, Faros at Neo Psychiko and Maroussi, with extensions to Vyronas / Ano Ilioupolis, Perissos and the national highway.

The new 15 underground stations of Section A of Line 4 are: Alsos Veikou, Galatsi, Elikonos, Kypseli, Dikastiria, Alexandras, Exarchia, Akademia, Kolonaki, Evangelismos, Kessariani, Panepistimioupoli, Ilissia, Zografou, Goudi.

Line 4 – Underground stations of Section A

VEIKOU Station will be located at the junction of Omorfoklissias (Veikou) Avenue with Tralleon Street in the Municipality of Galatsi

GALATSI Station will be located at the junction of Omorfoklissias (Veikou) Avenue and Aghias Glykerias Street (the continuation of Omorfoklissias Avenue), with Galatsiou Avenue in the Municipality of Galatsi

ELIKONOS Station will be located at the junction of Aghias Glykerias Street with Parnithos Street in the Municipality of Athens, adjacent to Elikonos hill

KYPSELI Station will be located on the south-eastern side of Kanari Square, in the Municipality of Athens, extending from Kypselis up to Velvendou Streets

DIKASTIRIA Station will be located on the west side of the former complex of the Courts’ buildings (Evlepidon Military Academy buildings), at the junction of Evelpidon and Moustoxidi Streets in the Municipality of Athens

ALEXANDRAS Station will be located at the junction of Alexandras Avenue with Moustoxidi Street in the Municipality of Athens

EXARCHEIA Station will be located on Exacheia Square, at the junction of Stournari and Sp. Trikoupi Streets in the Municipality of Athens

AKADIMIA Station will be located on Akadimias Street, between Ippocratus and Sina Streets, in the Municipality of Athens

KOLONAKI Station will be located on Filikis Etaireias (Kolonaki) Square at the junction of Skoufa, Patriarchou Ioakim, Kapsali, Koumbari and Kanari Streets, in the Municipality of Athens

EVANGELISMOS Station will be located in the Rizari Park, parallel to Pizari Street and diagonally to the existing EVANGELISMOS Station of Line 3, in the Municipality of Athens

KAISSARIANI Station will be located at the junction of Ethnikis Antistasseos Avenue with Vass. Alexandrou Avenue, between Imittou and John Kennedy Streets, in the Municipality of Kaissariani

PANEPISTIMIOUPOLI Station will be located within the Campus of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, on the northern side of the inner road artery, in the Municipality of Kaissariani

ILISSIA Station will be located on Indou Street and on Aornou and Kyprou Squares in the Municipality of Zografou

ZOGRAFOU Station will be located at Alexandri (Gardenia) Square, at the junction of G. Zografou and C’ Oreinis Taxiarchias Streets with Str. Alexandrou Papagou Avenue in the Municipality of Zografou

GOUDI Station will be located on Eleftherias Square and on Lochia Spiliopoulou Street in the Municipality of Zografou
