Covid-19 Support on national & EU level Greece’s Tourism Businesses, Workers Benefit from Covid-19 Support Measures by Nikos Krinis 20 March 2020 written by Nikos Krinis 20 March 2020 0 comments Share 0FacebookTwitterLinkedinWhatsappEmail 20 A number of Greek tourism-related businesses and their workers, impacted by the coronavirus (Covid-19) outbreak, will enjoy the latest support measures announced by the Greek government on Friday. Having already announced relief measures for all enterprises, including the suspension of tax and social security contribution payments, the government on Friday released a list indicating private companies of the industries that are covered by the measures. The employees of these companies are each to receive compensation of 800 euros. Employees from a number of companies of Greece’s tourism industry are covered by the measure. According to the list, among the companies hurt by the health crisis are air transport companies for passenger and cargo, passenger ferry companies, hotels, tourist accommodation lodges, campsites, travel agencies, professional congress organizer companies, catering companies, rent a car companies and companies providing other services related to transportation. Eligible for the 800-euro benefit are 1.4 million employees that have been or will be suspended from their employment contracts until April 30 by the private businesses included on the list. Self-employed individuals are also among those eligible for the benefit. The support measures also allow contract suspension and concerns employers whose turnover was affected by the coronavirus outbreak and allows them to suspend workers but not fire them. The list that provides the special Activity Code Numbers indicating which industries and therefore companies are covered by the measures. According to the government, the list of impacted industries is set to change as the pandemic unfolds. The list (in Greek) with the special Activity Code Numbers can be seen here.
