HotelBrain Founder & CEO Panos Paleologos

Greek hospitality management group HotelBrain recently expressed concern on the development of bookings for the 2020 tourism season in Greece.

During the Prodexpo Virtual event on Friday, HotelBrain CEO Panos Paleologos said that the group’s aim is for all of its hotels to soon restart operations. However, he added that it may not be feasible due to the low number of bookings.

“Our intention is to open our hotels wherever possible in order to support the tourism industry… and Greece’s economy… However, there is a key element missing at the moment: the client,” Paleologos underlined.

According to HotelBrain’s CEO, although the group’s hotels have accepted some reservations, there is always a risk of cancellations.

Moreover, he added that there are certain requirements missing for the season to restart such as the re-establishment of air connectivity between Greece and other countries, and the (official) announcement of health protocols that will ensure the safety of hotel staff and guests against the spread of Covid-19.

Greece entered its second phase of easing nationwide lockdown on Monday. Meanwhile, the tourism season is expected to begin in July with the operation of seasonal resorts, while the country’s year-round hotels are scheduled to open on June 1.

“We are content with the way Greece has managed this health crisis… Greece’s tourism product is unique… I hope the country will be able to confront this crisis and that the hospitality industry will not be forced to lose is prime hospitality assets,” Paleologos added.

Titled “The COVID-19 Diaries – Tourism: Plans for the next day”, the Prodexpo Virtual event was organized by Tsomokos Digital.
