Greece is among the first holiday destinations that Dutch travelers will visit this summer, according to Dick Gussen, the brand and marketing manager of Corendon, a leading tour operator in The Netherlands.

Speaking during the Greek Panorama Virtual Expo last month, Gussen said that a recent survey conducted among Corendon’s customers shows that Greece ranks second in the preferences of Dutch travelers for the upcoming summer season.

In addition, almost 95 percent of Corendon’s customers are willing to fly again, which is positive news for leisure travel worldwide.

Meanwhile, Sunweb Group Chief Commercial Officer Tim Van den Bergh also agreed that Greece is one of the most popular regions for Dutch holidaymakers.

“Greece is one of the regions that pick up fast in our portfolio. Some of the Greek destinations performing well are Crete, Zakynthos, Kos, Samos and Karpathos,” he said during the online event.

Van den Bergh also confirmed that the Dutch are eager to travel this summer.

“We’ve seen a growing trust especially for departures starting mid-May. Couples, for example are already booking… May until mid-June in terms of bookings will be challenging months but we expect many last-minute bookings in July while we feel very positive about the August – October period, as we expect borders to be open,” he added.

Zero bookings

Despite the desire of people to travel, bookings are still close to zero in The Netherlands.

“At the moment, the Dutch are not booking I’m afraid, but we have quite a few holidays that have been transferred from last year to this summer with Greece being a top favorite,” said TUI NL Head of External Communications and Spokesperson Petra Kok during the Greek Panorama Virtual Expo.

“We are optimistic about this summer season, but travel bans must be lifted. Then bookings will poor in like summer rain on dry land,” she added.

The Greek Panorama is organized by North Events and Travel Media Applications, and broadcast online from the studios of Podimatas SA.
