Trade Associations - Gov Greece’s 545 Blue Flag Beaches on Country’s App for Tourists by Eleftheria Pantziou 15 June 2021 written by Eleftheria Pantziou 15 June 2021 0 comments Share 0FacebookTwitterLinkedinWhatsappEmail 14 A list of Greece’s 545 Blue Flag beaches is now available on the Visit Greece app, the country’s official tourism application. Greece ranked second in the world among 49 countries on the 2021 Blue Flag quality award list for beaches, for the excellent water quality and the high-level services offered to bathers. “The list’s addition to the Visit Greece app is considered necessary, as it offers travelers the opportunity to receive the information they need in order to plan trips and holidays to seaside destinations across Greece,” the Tourism Ministry said in an announcement. The Blue Flag label guarantees the top quality of bathing waters and is widely used as an indicator for the selection of destinations by tourism organizations – including tour operators- and individual travelers. Operating under the auspices of the Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE), the Blue Flag program awards beaches that meet 33 different criteria such as safety, organization, information, protection of natural resources, environmental awareness activities and more. However, the most important requirements are the coastal zone’s cleanliness and the “excellent” quality of bathing waters. “Offering access to the list, allows us to easily promote Greece as an attractive, safe destination, especially to foreign travelers who prefer the sea,” the ministry said. The eco label is awarded to beaches for a period of 12 months. The Visit Greece app was launched in the summer of 2020 by the Tourism Ministry and the Greek National Tourism Organization, in collaboration with Mastercard, Eurobank and Warply. It is available for free on the App Store and Google Play.
