Greece in the Spotlight for Dior Cruise Collection Show

Athens’ Kallimarmaro Panathenaic Stadium and Greek textile and fashion creations take center stage for the runway presentation of the “Croisière 2022” collection by Dior tomorrow on June 17.

The show features the work of Dior’s creative director, Italian designer Maria Grazia Chiuri and according to local media reports will be attended by some 400 international guests.

The Croisière (Cruise) Collection runway will be broadcast live worldwide on television and via social media and on video screens in public spaces in Soufli and Kalamata, and in Athens at the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center and the Cine Paris in Plaka.

Chiuri selected Greece for the presentation of the “Croisière 2022” collection as a tribute to Christian Dior and to commemorate the fashion house’s photo shoot for Paris Match at the Acropolis 70 years ago featuring the fall 1951 collection captured by photographer Jean-Pierre Pedrazzini.

The French fashion house also pays tribute to Greece with a week of events through to June 22 promoting works made in Greece by Greek creators with Greek textiles and materials.

Dedicated to the ongoing bicentennial celebrations marking the Greek 1821 War of Independence, “Dior Celebrates Greece” will highlight Greece as the birthplace of civilization and promote Greek traditions, craftsmanship and expertise worldwide with fashion events at the Acropolis and the Temple of Poseidon in Sounion.

“The house has chosen Athens, an exceptional destination, cradle of Western Civilization and European art, for its 2022 cruise collection,” Dior said in a statement.

Athens will be Dior’s first live event after a July 2020 presentation held in the Piazza del Duomo in Lecce, Italy. 

Dior has collaborated with dozens of Greek artists, craftsmen, musicians and technicians for the event and with 10 photographers for photo shoots at major archaeological sites.

“Greece is a country that has always been close to my heart,” Chiuri has said.
