Volotea Resumes Operations from Athens

Spanish low-cost carrier Volotea has restarted operations from its base at Athens International Airport, which had remained closed for several months due to the coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic.

The carrier resumed its services from/to Greek destinations in mid- May, following the ease of travel restrictions worldwide.

For the summer of 2021, Volotea will be flying from Athens to a total of 11 destinations in Greece and abroad – namely in Italy, Croatia and France.

Summer flights to the Greek islands

Volotea this summer is offering flights from Athens Airport to four Greek islands: Crete’s Heraklion, Rhodes, Mykonos and Santorini.

In addition, Volotea is flying from France and Italy to a total of 12 islands in Greece.

“We feel very positive about the summer season. With the rates of vaccination improving in Greece, we believe that things will only get better and better,” Volotea Commercial Country Manager for Italy & Southeastern Europe Valeria Rebasti said during a press event on Thursday.

According to Rebasti, Volotea, this year, will offer around 350,000 seats in the Greek market.

The carrier is also conducting flights from Greece to Verona, Venice and Bari in Italy; Lyon, Marseilles and Strasbourg in France and Dubrovnik in Croatia.

Since the start of its operations in Athens in 2015, Volotea has offered a total of 1.3 million seats. For 2022, the airline has already put on sale three more routes: Cagliari, Genoa and Split.

Furthermore, Volotea has substituted its Boeing 717s with two Airbus A319s in Athens, offering more capacity per flight (156 seats vs 125 seats).

In January, Volotea accelerated its fleet change with the early retirement of 14 Boeing 717s and the operation of 40 Airbus aircrafts (20 A319s and 20 A320s).
