Photo source: Visit Greece Greek tourism won a number of prestigious accolades at this year’s World Travel Awards (WTA), the leading authority that recognises and rewards excellence in travel and tourism. The World Travel Awards, announced its 2021 World winners at the Grand Final Winners Day held on Thursday. Greece performed strongly, with the Tourism Ministry and the Greek National Tourism Organization (GNTO) winning the ‘World’s Leading Tourist Board’ category once again and the Region of Attica voted ‘World’s Leading Seaside Metropolitan Destination 2021’.In the hospitality sector, Santo Maris Oia Luxury Suites & Spa emerged as ‘World’s Leading Boutique Resort 2021’, the Grand Forest Metsovo was voted as ‘World’s Leading Landmark Hotel 2021’, whilst Aristi Mountain Resort & Villas was named ‘World’s Leading Eco-Lodge 2021’. The Sani Resort won two top honors: ‘World’s Leading Family & Beach Resort 2021’ and ‘World’s Leading Luxury Green Resort 2021’. Winners in Greek hospitality included Domes Resorts that was named ‘World’s Leading Independent Hotel Group 2021’ and the Royal Blu Mansion @ Mykonos Blu Grecotel Exclusive Resort that was acknowledged as ‘World’s Leading Hotel Villa 2021’. In addition, Greece’s Mideast Travel Worldwide took the title of ‘World’s Leading Destination Management Company 2021’ and Greek company AllinBlusive was honored as ‘World’s Leading Private Cruises Company 2021’. Votes were cast by travel industry professionals and the public, with the nominee gaining the most votes in a category named as the winner. In the aviation sector, Emirates lifted ‘World’s Leading Airline’ and ‘World’s Leading Airline – First Class’, whilst ‘World’s Leading Airport’ went to Dubai International Airport. Star Alliance took ‘World’s Leading Airline Alliance’. Brand winners include InterContinental Hotels & Resorts (‘World’s Leading Hotel Brand’) and Four Seasons Hotels & Resorts (‘World’s Leading Resort Brand’). “Our World winners represent the best in global travel and tourism and my congratulations to each of them. They are all playing starring roles in leading the global travel and tourism recovery,” Graham Cooke, Founder, World Travel Awards, said. It is reminded that Greece and Greek travel and tourism enterprises were also acknowledged in a number of categories at the 28th WTA Europe event that took place in October. WTA was established in 1993 to acknowledge, reward and celebrate excellence across all sectors of the tourism industry.
