Greek Tourism Enterprises Still Short of Staff, Portal Open for Jobseekers

Tourism businesses in Greece are still short of staff with at least 2,430 job openings listed on the Public Employment Service (DYPA) portal open to all jobseekers.

Available positions include everything from PR executives and plumbers to guards and receptionists at some 706 enterprises across Greece. The majority of jobs concern hotels and F&B services.

The DYPA portal was launched last month to address staff shortages in tourism. Sector businesses were invited to declare open positions and areas of specialty for the June-August period. Recruiters from DYPA (former manpower organization OAED) would then select qualified individuals who met the requirements for the jobs by June 15.

The decision was announced after a meeting between the tourism and labor ministries and the Greek Tourism Confederations (SETE)  to address complaints of staff shortages by sector professionals.

Interested parties can find all job listings in tourism here. The listings include job description, requirements, location and available positions, experience and in some cases duration and working hours. Unemployed individuals interested should send their CVs here indicating in the e-mail subject line, area(s) of interest and location(s).

Businesses at popular tourist destinations such as Rhodes, Ikaria, Crete, Astypalea, Kefalonia, Santorini, Kavala, Athens, Kos, Skiathos, Nafplion, and many others are among those still looking for employees mostly receptionists, waiters, and customer services, among others.

The initial deadline to meet the demand was set for June 15 but there still appears to be a shortage particularly in view of increasing tourist arrivals expected in the coming months. Last week, the Hellenic Confederation of Tourist Accommodation Entrepreneurs (SETKE) proposed recruiting pensioners and teachers to fill staff shortages at tourism facilities.
