The Grand Hyatt Athens recently completed a major expansion project and – although located in the city – gives the impression of a resort hotel thanks to its new additions. Located on Syngrou Avenue, the hotel now includes a new floor, two rooftops, an infinity pool (bringing the number of swimming pools to four), 548 rooms and 4,400 square meter of space for conferences and events. Having completed its expansion and renovation, the Grand Hyatt Athens is now the largest Grand Hyatt in Europe. The demanding project, which lasted two years and was completed in November, saw the expansion of the hotel through its connection with the neighboring property that previously housed the Odeon Starcity cinema, along with the complete renovation of almost all its spaces. Key to the project is the addition of 227 new rooms and suites (some with their own swimming pools), reaching a total of 548, making the Grand Hyatt Athens the second largest hotel in Athens in terms of capacity, after the Athenaeum Intercontinental (563 rooms). A resort in Athens: Rooftop revamp includes infinity pool The Grand Hyatt Athens’ renovation project includes a brand new rooftop pool experience for guests with the addition of an infinity pool. The hotel’s 8th floor that offers a panoramic view that stretches from the Acropolis to the sea now boasts two swimming pools, the renovated restaurant The Grand by Interni as well as the impressive two-storey Penthouse Suite and Two Level Suite, both unique for Greek hotel standards. Made of off-white marble, the new infinity pool is the largest on a rooftop building in Greece, allowing guests to swim and at the same time enjoy the view towards to the Acropolis monument. The two rooftop swimming pools and their surrounding area offer a unique resort experience in the city with gazebos, seating areas and sunbeds, as well as an open bar creating a vacation setting. The pool experience at the Grand Hyatt Athens includes the exotic outdoor Atrium pool with a setting of lush vegetation and paths that resemble a secret garden away from the hussle and bustle of the city; and the 25-meter heated indoor pool of the Aegeo spa ideal for tranquility and rejuvenation moments. Another impressive addition to the Grand Hyatt Athens is the Two Level Suite that offers views of the Acropolis and Lycabettus Hill. The spacious two-level suite of 193sqm has a furnished terrace and a luxuriously designed marble bathroom with branded amenities and bath tub. Conference spaces and events Following the renovation, the hotel’s conference and meeting/event spaces now occupy three levels and reach 4,400 square meters (47.360 sq ft). The spaces include an Executive Lounge, meeting and syndicate rooms, rooms for interviews and for private meals. Grand Hyatt Athens, foyer, Caryatids ballroom. It is noted that the Caryatids ballroom with a capacity of 1,000 people, located on the ground floor of the new wing, is the only one of this area of Athens with natural daylight. The Grand Hyatt Athens also hosts social events such as weddings and receptions and has its Penthouse Suite available for parties and gatherings. New floor, second rooftop and two restaurants An important part of the Grand Hyatt Athens’ renovation project was the addition of a ninth floor – a second rooftop – to house a second restaurant. The hotel’s new restaurant, the name of which has yet to be announced, in the evenings offers an adventure of innovative cocktails, Japanese flavours and Asian ingredients. The Grand Hyatt Athens first opened its doors in 2018, following a major revamp of the building, under the ownership of US real estate company Hines and European real estate investment platform Henderson Park. The hotel is managed by the Knossians/Y&T Daskalantonakis group. The building of the Grand Hyatt Athens once housed the Ledra Marriott (1983-2014) managed by Marriott International and then the Athens Ledra hotel (2014-2017). The total investment (including the purchase of both buildings – former Athens Ledra and Odeon Starcity cinema, renovations and new constructions) is close to 150 million euros. The Grand Hyatt Athens this year won a series of accolades at the 17th World Luxury Awards. Besides successfully hosting the event, the hotel was recognized in eight categories including “Best Luxury Conference & Event Hotel” where it was the global winner. The Grand Hyatt Athens is the first Grand Hyatt branded hotel in Greece and the first Hyatt hotel in the Greek capital.
