Starting from June to September, Gulf Air is including the new Bahrain-Rhodes route in its schedule, while also resuming flights to Mykonos. The two Greek destinations will be operated through two weekly flights to Rhodes and Mykonos by Airbus A320neo. Flights to Rhodes and Mykonos will begin early June and run until late September. Welcoming the news, the Municipality of Rhodes underlined the importance of the island’s direct connection with Bahrain, which places it among the main destinations of Gulf Air for this summer season. According to the municipality, Gulf Air’s announcement of the new Bahrain – Rhodes route is in line with the local authority’s goals for expansion and promotion of the destination to new new markets in collaboration with PROTOUR, the South Aegean Region and local tourism stakeholders. Rhodes Deputy Mayor of Tourism and Culture Giorgos Toppos referred to a “positive development” and highlighted that attracting visitors from Asian countries is a key priority of the municipal authority. “Gulf Air’s announcement will strengthen the tourism relations between Rhodes and Bahrain and develop the tourist flow between the two countries and the two destinations,” he said. According to the municipality, a meeting is expected to take place on Rhodes in March attended by all parties to discuss and plan further actions. Atendess will include airport operator Fraport Greece and Greek and Asian travel agents and tour operators. Gulf Air has been connecting Bahrain and Greece with flights to Athens for over 40 years. The airline has been flying to Athens International Airport (AIA) in Spata since its opening in 2001. Since then Gulf Air has carried over 800,000 passengers to and from Athens on over 10,000 flights The airline currently operates daily flights from Bahrain to the Greek capital.
