For three days, Greece will exhibit its tourism offerings at the ITB Berlin in Germany, one of the world’s leading travel trade shows.

Under the theme “Define the World of Travel. Together.” and with the slogan #ITBTOGETHER, ITB Berlin 2024 will be taking place from Tuesday, 5 to Thursday 7, March, on the Berlin Exhibition Grounds in Germany.

On the occasion of ITB, Tourism Minister Olga Kefalogianni will visit Berlin and attend scheduled meetings with foreign counterparts, as well as representatives of leading travel agencies, tour operators and airlines. The minister will meet with participating Greek tourism professionals and representatives from Greek regions and give interviews to leading German tourism-focused media.

According to the ministry, the aim of Kefalogianni’s contacts and meetings is the further development of the tourist flow in Greece by strengthening ties with the German and global tourism market.

“Establishing Greece as a leading tourism destination in Germany and worldwide, extending the tourism season and ensuring quality and sustainable development is the main strategy of our presence at the international trade show,” the minister said in a statement.

The Greek National Tourism Organization (GNTO) and its co-exhibitors — Greek regions, municipalities, hotels, travel agencies, tour operators, etc. — are inviting all to visit the Greek stand in Hall 1.1/101 and get acquainted with the country’s holiday destinations and tourism products.

According to the GNTO, ITB Berlin 2024 will see the organization’s largest participation of the last years as the 1,000-square-meter “Visit Greece” stand will host a total of 85 co-exhibitors.

Heading the GNTO’s delegation is the organization’s secretary general, Dimitris Fragakis, who has an agenda full of meetings with airlines, tour operators, top players of the local travel market and institutional tourism bodies of Germany.

At the opening press conference at ITB Berlin on Monday German Travel Association (DRV) President Norbert Fiebig said Greece is the third most popular holiday destination among Germans for the summer of 2024 based on bookings.

According to DRV, the top five summer 2024 travel destinations for German travelers are Turkey, Spain, Greece, Egypt and Portugal.

“Early bird bookings for summer vacations are back – in 2024 they will be even stronger than ever before,” Fiebig said, summarizing this year’s travel trends recorded in the German market.

“The Germans want to travel… For their summer vacation, they are increasingly relying on the security and flexibility of package holidays.”

According to BoG data, in 2023, the number of inbound travellers rose by 17.6 percent to 32.7 million (up from 27.8 million in 2022) with visitors from Germany up by 9.5 percent to 4.7 million compared to 2022.

Germany and the United Kingdom traditionally are the largest markets for Greek tourism.
