Wyndham Hotels & Resorts, the world’s largest hotel franchising company, announced on Tuesday that it is in advanced discussions to expand its portfolio in Greece with two additional hotels.

Currently, Wyndham operates 13 properties across Greece, including three in Athens, two in Loutraki, and one each in VravronaNea MakriThessalonikiHalkidikiAlexandroupoliCorfuRhodes, and Crete.

At the Resort & Residential Hospitality Forum (R&R Forum) in Athens, Vassilis Themelidis, Regional Director for South and East Europe, told Greek journalists that the company is actively working on further expanding its presence in Greece. Two potential hotels are under consideration, one in the wider Attica region and the other in a “secondary destination” with relatively low international travel traffic but significant growth potential.

“We are interested in destinations that may not be at the forefront of tourism,” Themelidis explained, noting that Wyndham sees potential in locations such as Limnos, Chios, Kavala, Epirus, and Western Macedonia, where the company believes it can add value as an international brand.

“In these destinations, we focus on adapting to the specific needs of each location,” he said. “We see an opportunity to develop mid-scale hotels, particularly in the 3-star category.”

Referring to Northern Greece in particular, Themelidis emphasized how Wyndham’s strong brand recognition helps boost tourism further in the region.

Currently, Wyndham operates the Ramada Plaza in Alexandroupolis, which has seen an increase in American travelers.

Themelidis also mentioned that the company plans to introduce additional brands from its portfolio to Greece in the future. Currently, Wyndham’s brands in Greece include Ramada, Wyndham, and Dolce.

Wyndham is also prioritizing the growth of its branded residences portfolio through Wyndham Residences.

“We’re focusing on residences, which is a rapidly growing sector. We were one of the first to enter the market in Greece with this product,” Themelidis said.

He added that the company is particularly interested in mixed-use developments, where hotels include residences or bungalows.
