H&P Hospitality Group, a well-established family-run hotel chain with some five decades of experience, has successfully increased its direct bookings to 70 percent post-pandemic, reflecting the company’s strategic shift toward technology and its focus on enhancing online visibility.

The group’s two hotels, Herodion and Philippos, located just beneath the iconic Acropolis in Athens, are increasingly popular with travelers due to their top notch services and unique positioning.

Speaking to GTP Headlines during a recent holiday event at the Herodion Hotel, Alexandros Delipamidis, Sales, Revenue, and Marketing Manager of H&P Hospitality, outlined the group’s post-COVID strategy.

According to Delipamidis, the group’s management adopted a technology-driven approach, investing in their websites to boost direct bookings while also working with leading online travel agencies (OTAs).

As a result, the group now sees 70 percent of bookings made directly through their site, with 20 percent from platforms like Booking.com and Expedia, and 10 percent through a partnership with British Airways .

“We gradually upgraded our website after the pandemic, which helped drive these results,” said Delipamidis.

Growing markets and emerging trends

Speaking about Athens for city breaks, Delipamidis said the Greek capital continues to be a “top destination” for international travelers.

He noted that both hotels have seen high booking levels, with 90 percent occupancy for the pre-Christmas period and a strong trend continuing through the holiday season. The American market remains the largest, followed by travelers from the UK, France, and Greece.

However, Delipamidis highlighted the increasing importance of the Far East market, noting growing interest from countries like India, Japan, China, and Korea. Additionally, the Scandinavian market is showing rising interest, particularly during the winter months, drawn by Athens’ mild climate.

Leveraging Athens’ strategic location for cruise tourism

Referring to cruise tourism, Delipamidis explained that with Piraeus Port — one of the major Mediterranean cruise hubs — being in close proximity to Athens, H&P Hospitality’s hotels are perfectly positioned to cater to cruise passengers.

The group has also actively worked to promote Athens as a destination for passengers extending their stays. As part of this effort, the hotels hosted a press trip for a journalist from Cruise and Travel Magazine, further showcasing the region’s tourism potential.

H&P Hospitality’s hotels have also gained recognition in renowned international publications, such as The Telegraph and The Times, cementing their reputation as key players in Athens’ hospitality sector.

Just steps from the Odeon of Herod Atticus and the Acropolis, the four-star Herodion Hotel blends timeless elegance with contemporary design, offering 90 guest rooms, two restaurants, and a bar. Part of Athens’ hotel scene for 47 years, Herodion remains an iconic part of the city’s hospitality offering.

Herodion’s sister hotel, the three-star Philippos, provides luxury accommodation with stunning views of the Acropolis. Featuring 50 guest rooms, it is located just below the pedestrian street of Dionissiou Aeropagitou, nestled beneath the sacred Acropolis cliff.
