Greek President Launches Olpympic Voyager

The fastest cruise ship of its class is the world and the first newbuild of Royal Olympic Cruises sailed into Piraeus harbor last month exactly as planned, and was officially launched by Hellenic Republic President Costis Stephanopoulos.

The newbuild Olympic Voyager was built at the Blohm+Voss shipyards in Hamburg. It is the first of two vessels ordered by the Royal and represents a revolution in the shipping sector, particularly as it is able to reach a speed of 30 knots. The second vessel is due in April next year.

The Olympic Voyager weighs 25,000 tons, measures 59 feet in length and 48 feet in width and has a service speed of 28 miles. Passengers will be able to stroll across its six decks and enjoy its 30,000n square meters of open space. The ship carries 480 passengers and a staff of 340.

The Olympic Voyager’s cruises have been named “Cruises through three continents.” The first departed June 24 on a seven-day from Piraeus to culturally rich Istanbul, Kussadasi, Patmos, Rodos, Haifa, Alexandria and Mykonos. This provocative cruise enables quests to visit three continents -Europe, Asia and Africa- and four countries.

Olympic Voyager is set to place Royal on a new road as if follows the recent transfer of shares in ROC Holding Inc to Louis Cruise Lines Ltd, as part of the latter’s purchase of a majority stake in Royal.
