Minoan Flying Dolphins has taken delivery of the first of three Highspeed ferries built by the Australian firm Austal. The Greek flag was raised on the vessel Highspeed 2, which began to service routes in the Aegean last month.

The ferry, which can carry 659 passengers in VIP business and economy class, as well as 75 vehicles, is considered the fastest vessel in its class and plies the Aegean at an average speed of 39 knots.

Travelling time to nine Aegean islands is expected to be reduced by half when the  company accepts delivery of Highspeed 3 and 4.
