Milos Conference Center Officially Opened

The Milos Conference Centre George Eliopoulos, founded by Kitty Kyriacopoulou, chairperson of the mining company Argyro and Barytinis, was officially opened last month by the deputy minister for foreign affairs, Elizabeth Papazois.

The building, a reconstruction of an old kaolin (china clay) factory, represents a typical example of the industrial architecture of the 1930s. The center provides all modern facilities and audiovisual equipment.

It can host up to 600 people in theater style and is specially constructed to allow complete access for the handicapped. The main hall can be divided into two parts with seating capacity of 250 and 100 people respectively.

The idyllic location of Milos in the Cyclades is now home to Greece’s newest convention centre. Opened on July 1, the venue is located on a one-hectare property and is designed to operate year-round. The centre’s main room can cater to 400, its balcony hosts up to 100 while its meeting room can hold up to 50.

It is equipped with the latest audiovisual and telecommunications equipment. Furthermore, it is accessible to individuals with special needs, has an in-house medical centre, media room and parking for 100 vehicles. Kitty Kyriacopoulou formulated the idea to restore a kaolin factory , which exemplified post WW1 industrial architecture, and dedicated it to the memory of her father George Eliopoulos.

The restoration of the building, erected in the 1930s, begun in 1994 and it is hoped that the venue will contribute to the island’s cultural development and attract conferences and high-calibre tourists.
