The bureau notes that 2001 is likely to be a special year for Thessaloniki with regards conferences and business meetings. The bureau, a first for Greece, intends to continuously develop until it reaches the point where its services will allow the present amateurishness of some organizers to vanish. It also intends to ensure that the overall failure to promote Thessaloniki as a congress destination will become a thing of the past. The body is the first of its type set up in Greece and has a specific methodology as well as a specialized staff and expert advisors abroad. As of this month, it will begin to implement a business plan of action aimed at informing and attracting congress organizers. The bureau also plans to take part in numerous exhibitions, publish informational booklets, create a promotional CD-ROM and an Internet site, and organize seminars and forums.
