The organization’s secretary general, Evgenios Yiannakopoulos, said that in a single week last month 51 inspectors checked 309 hotel units, 139 tourism enterprises, including travel agencies and car hire firms, 26 sea ports, five airports, two museums and 19 beaches at destinations, that host major tourism traffic. A particular focus was placed on cases of consumer exploitation. Inspectors proposed improvements that should be made in services offered at 130 of the hotels, while legal action is expected to be taken in four cases. The tourist police took action in six cases where tourist enterprises where found to be breaching standards. On-the-spot checks for customer exploitation were carried out at the ports of Mykonos, Corfu, Paros, Naxos and Syros. The 140-member task force includes regional teams that will check the quality of services provided by Greek tourism enterprises. Separately, the minister said he didn’t want to make predictions on arrivals figures for the tourist season.
