Athenaum IntercontinentalThe Athenaeum Inter-Continental Athens has reopened its ballroom following a 950-million drachma renovation of what is considered one of the largest conference venues in Greece.

Works involving the entire renovation of the ballroom, adjoining function rooms and the rest of the floor on which it is located began in May this year.

Under the guidance of distinguished French designer Pierre Yves Rochon, the venue has taken on a contemporary, innovative look. It has new colours and furnishings, decor, state of the art lighting, professional sound systems, latest technology audiovisual facilities, ergonomic seating and height adjustable lecterns.

It can accommodate up to 2,200 people in theatre-style and can be divided into three separate, self-contained sound proof areas.

Two additional rooms adjacent to the ballroom can cater for up to 200 people.

The recent refurbishment of the ballroom is part of the hotel’s wider renovation program that began in 1995 and is expected to be completed by the end of 2002, two years ahead of the 2004 Athens Olympics.
