Opinions A note by the publisher by GTP editing team 1 July 2001 written by GTP editing team 1 July 2001 0 comments Share 0FacebookTwitterLinkedinWhatsappEmail 9 Since it was first established in 1975, International Publications’ prime goal has been to assist the travel trade by supplying information that was difficult or time consuming to obtain by normal means. The introduction of Greek Travel Pages, in the same year, and its continual development and improvement throughout the years that followed, was considered a godsend by many in the trade. GTP’s success centered on the publisher’s unique knowledge of the trade and its unique problems. In the 1990s, it was painfully clear that Greece’s domestic sea route schedules were extremely hard to follow and to update. In an effort to help solve the problem, International Publications created Greek Travel Routes. This unique edition allowed users to find essential information for ferryboat travel within Greece. The GTR guide to the country’s plethora of ferry routes quickly became popular with the consumer for island hopping. Since its introduction in 1997, some 317,000 copies have been distributed. In an effort to extend the publication’s reach to Greek island lovers around the world, another major step was taken a few years back with the introduction of our Internet site, www.gtp.gr which, besides a plethora of information on Greece, includes more than 20,000 Greek ferry routes and timetables. This year, our publisher has taken another step forward with the introduction of the Cyclades Island Hopping Guide, which concentrates on a superb group of islands that are ideal for island hopping. And except for complete coastal shipping schedules, and relevant information, this special edition includes the area’s tourism professionals who are subscribers to Greek Travel Pages. The basic aim of this new edition, which will be published periodically (spring and summer), is to center on a particular area of Greece and provide the professional with concise information for island hopping possibilities. Future editions will include additional information for the consumer, such as beach properties, archaeological sites, museums, dining out, shopping, and so on.
