Trade Associations - Gov Tourism Continues To Outperform All Other Sectors by GTP editing team 1 July 2001 written by GTP editing team 1 July 2001 0 comments Share 0FacebookTwitterLinkedinWhatsappEmail 10 Travel and tourism is expected to generate 207 million jobs worldwide in 2001 with 53 million potential new jobs by 2011, probably outperforming all other economic sectors during this period, according to the latest report from the World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC). However, governments’ continued inaction towards worsening infrastructure constraints concerns the Travel & Tourism industry and poses a critical barrier, jeopardizing anticipated economic growth and job creation with knock-on effects to all sectors of the economy. While this problem is not new, industry leaders have expressed concern that the situation has reached unacceptable levels and has already taken a heavy toll on the entire Travel & Tourism community. WTTC is launching an Infrastructure Task Force to urge governments to recognize the urgency of the matter and to act. This Task Force will work with the public sector to find short, medium and long-term solutions and will be made up of leading thinkers and WTTC Members including transportation operators as well as representatives of hotels, tour operators, car-rentals, credit cards and other travel-related services.
