Yet Another New Superfast Vessel Launched

The roll-on, roll-off ferry vessel Superfast XI last month was slid gracefully down the slipway of the Flender shipyard in Lubeck, Germany, into the waters of the Baltic Sea launched at. The 200-meter-long Superfast XI, built for Superfast Ferries’ holding company, Attica Enterprises, can carry 1,550 passengers. It will be delivered in the first quarter of next year. A second sister ship is due in the second quarter of next year.

Superfast XI is the first of a pair of two ultramodern car-passenger ferries currently under construction at Flender Werft AG. Its sister vessel, Superfast XII, is due for delivery in the course of the second quarter of 2002.

Each will have a capacity of 1,550 passengers and garage decks for 130 large trucks and 100 private vehicles. They have four 12-cylinder Wartsila engines that produce a total output of 48,000 kWh and can reach speeds in excess of 30 knots. Both will have an overall length of 199.9 meters, a width of 25.0 meters, a draft of 6.4 meters, and a maximum height at deck 10 of 28.8 meters.
