The International Exhibition “Ports 2001” for the construction, development and management of ports in view of 2004 took place on September 27-28, 2001 at the Peace and Friendship Stadium.

The exhibition focused on the development of ports and marinas in Greece in the context of the preparations for the 2004 Olympiad. According to a preliminary operational plan created by the Ministry of Mercantile Marine, some 436.6 billion drachmas will have to be provided for projects at the country’s infrastructures, as well as for training Harbor Guard personnel. The EC’s Third Community Support Framework program has already approved 128.7 billion, while total expenditures for projects in ports and marinas will total 295.7 billion drachmas

The exhibition’s three seminars -Contemporary European ports, the new administrative and financial framework, ports and tourism- examined the course of these projects and their materialization, as well as the business opportunities that will be created and the respective infrastructures and projects in Europe.
