Called Vessel Traffic Management and Information System, the control center will track vessels sailing Greek waters from four main harbor points – Piraeus, Patras, Igoumenitsa and Corfu. Greece’s minister of merchant marine says the control center will help ease the general flow of sea traffic, decrease the number of ship accidents, aid in the development search and rescue services, and help protect the environment.
