Greece’s first tourism submarine service was inaugurated last month by Merchant Marine Minister George Anomeritis at the Peace and Friendship Stadium’s wharf area. The Atlantis Santorini I, which dives to a depth of 25-30 meters, will explore the undersea area of Santorini’s Caldera. The vessel comfortably hosts 28 passengers and two crewmembers.

President of the Great Blue Santorini Maritime Company, Georgos Mitakides, which owns and manages the submarine, says the vessel is extremely safe.

Each underwater tour lasts one hour and during the tour the submarine will be followed above water by another boat that is in continual contact with the sub.

Once underwater, the sub runs around the old Santorini volcano area where the clear waters give passengers unique sites of an old wrecked ship, ocean floral and a variety of sea life. The submarine is completely silent running and does not pollute the environment. Further information on tour programs is available from Great Blue Santorini at 22860 or through the email address boatmen@otenet.gr.
