Company updates Hilton Athens Official IOC Headquarters Hotel by GTP editing team 1 June 2003 written by GTP editing team 1 June 2003 0 comments Share 0FacebookTwitterLinkedinWhatsappEmail 13 As well as being an official IOC headquarters hotel, the Hilton Athens recently was the site for the planting of the first “Olive Tree” by Athens Environmental Foundation Executive Director Tony Diamantidis. It was the first of a worldwide tree planting to honor the homecoming of the Olympics. Peter Van der Vliet, general manager of the Hilton Athens and Yianna Angelopoulou-Daskalaki, president of the Athens 2004, signed an agreement last month whereby the hotel becomes an official International Olympic Committee headquarters hotel during the 2004 Olympic Games here in Athens. Also on hand for the ceremony was the president of Ioniki Hotel Enterprises, G.S. Kostopoulos, who is also the head of Alpha Bank. Yianna Angelopoulou-Daskalaki told guests the work done on refurbishing the Hilton was excellent in terms of both beauty and flexibility. “The new Hilton is already an example of the legacy the Games will leave the city and the level of hospitality here,” she said. Mr. Van der Vliet invited all to experience the new Hilton Athens, following its 96 million Euro refurbishment. The Hilton Athens boasts 517 newly renovated rooms, including 220 rooms looking onto the Acropolis. With a collection of 14 newly designed meeting rooms, incorporating Hilton meetings, business center and vast exhibition space, the Hilton Athens appears an ideal choice for the conference organizer. A selection of four restaurants and two bars is available where guests can enjoy Greek and Mediterranean speciality dishes, or view the city from the chic Galaxy Roof top bar, relax by the swimming pool, or work out in the new health club.
