The symposium is under the auspices of the Greek Ministry of Culture and the Cultural Olympics and is in coorporation with UNESCO and the International Center for the Study, the Preservation and the Restoration of Cultural Property. Technocrats and scientists will participate in the symposium along with mayors and other political representatives of cities participating in the Organization of World Heritage Cities. Some 110 lectures were submitted to date. The medieval city of Rodos entered the World Heritage list in 1988 and in 1993 was accepted, along with another 187 cities around the world, into the then newly-formed Organization of World Heritage Cities. Like the other 187 world cities, Rodos City was accepted into this organization thanks to its cultural background, which spans 24 centuries, and the excellent condition of its monuments.
