The newest ferry vessel on the Piraeus-Chania route, the Blue Star 2, has managed to sail ahead of all its competitors. For the month of December, Blue Star 2 increased travel on the route by some 43% and increased cargo transport by about 31%, when compared with the same month the year before.

In all, Blue Star 2 executed 56 sailings from and to Piraeus during the period against a total of 66 sailings carried out by the three competing vessels on the route. During December, Blue Star 2 carried 31,293 passengers, 3,393 vehicles and 1.034 transport trucks. The number passengers carried covers almost 51% of the route’s total passenger market and the trucks carried covers a little more than 27% of the cargo transport market on the route.

Blue Star executives say that because of the vessel’s speed -28 miles per hour- and the modern construction of the new vessel, the company has been able to change the status quo in ferry travel as it offers high standards of services to both Chania citizens and visitors to the island city.
