After three years of intensive renovations, and the restoration of some 9,000 statues and precious artifacts, the National Archaeological Museum in Athens reopened its doors to the public last month. Although only 32 of the 54 exhibition halls have reopened, visitors are sure to be pleased with the results.

Visitors can marvel at the thousands of ancient gold pieces from Troy, as well as Neolithic gold pieces being exhibited for the first time, and all within new displays with special lighting effects and thick crystal.

The building itself has been completely renovated, new air conditioning installed, all windows replaced with filtered glass, and a new entrance constructed especially for people with special needs. On July 15, the museum inaugurates its first exhibition after reopening. The exhibition centers on the Olympic Games and its history.
