Athens International Airport Eleftherios Venizelos last month welcomed Greece Airways to the Athens airport community. The new airline, a subsidiary of Air Scotland but with Greek participation, recently launched two weekly scheduled services (every Monday & Friday) that connect Athens to Glasgow.

Greece Airways was founded in December 2003 and operates Air Scotland’s scheduled services from Glasgow to seven destinations in Spain. The company’s chairman said the airline would soon fly from Athens to Pakistan.

Based in Athens, Greece Airways was established as a Greek commercial airline with full operating license. It holds a European AOC, which was issued by the Civil Aviation Authority of the Hellenic Republic, and thus is fully licensed to operate in all member countries of the EU, including the UK.

The Hellenic Civil Aviation Authority has approved Greece Airways financially and submitted the approval to the European Commission. A bank guarantee had been provided to the Hellenic CAA before the granting the operating license to Greece Airways.

Greece Airways will also operate charter and schedule flights for and on behalf of other airlines and tour operators worldwide. The airline has contracted Thomas Cook Airlines UK Ltd and Monarch to provide full maintenance services for its aircraft. Greece Airways complies with all EU regulations and meets all requirements of flight operations, safety and financial requirements.
